Hi friends & happy Saturday!
Did anyone else treat the last Sephora sale like everything was free, and therefore you could buy, oh I don’t know, EVERYTHING?! I know some of you also went a little crazy so I guess our bank accounts can all mourn the loss together. So after spending an arm + a leg during last weeks Holiday Sale, I’ve decided to enter into a little no-buy kinda situation. And I’m not letting my past failed attempts deter me. This time, JE SUIS DETERMINED!
Now, you may be asking yourself “well if she’s overindulged in makeup purchases lately, why the heck is she talking about new makeup products?!” And girl, I get it. BUT…I managed to {conveniently} sneak this little order in before my no-buy started…soooo my no-buy can officially start…uhh… NOW! (haha).
Anyways, lets park the no-buy talk for now.
Today we’re talking about a balm that I have literally searched high + low for.
Before we jump right into these must have balms, let’s quickly chat e.l.f.
Old school e.l.f (even from 5 years ago) was, well let’s call it what it was…lame. It was junkie and underwhelming and in my opinion, looked like cheap makeup. Never would I have thought about picking up a product from the brand. Fast forward a couple of years and e.l.f Cosmetics seemed to have a little more shelf space at Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall. All of a sudden, their eyeshadow palettes contained stunning shades that matched the quality of even the higher end drugstore brands. They expanded their product range, making them a contender in the drugstore beauty space. If you’re on Instagram, you may even remember seeing a whole lotta content this past summer after the launch of their Retro Paradise collection. People around the world were talking e.l.f and my curiosity for the brand was officially peaked.
Now, the moment I laid my eyes on photos of the Ride or Die lip balms was the moment I knew I needed more e.l.f. in my life. What I didn’t know at the time was that the beauty gods were going to make me work for these juicy little balms.
e.l.f. Cosmetics launched the Ride or Die lip balms earlier this year and believe me when I tell you, I have been waiting MONTHS for these little guys to come to Canada. In fact…I’m technically still waiting. Anyways, last week I decided I just couldn’t wait a moment longer and ordered them directly from the e.l.f. site.
And then yesterday, the moment I had literally been waiting forever for…my e.l.f. order arrived! After tearing open the box (which I’ll also say was WAAAAY too big for 3 little lip balms)…well, it was love at first sight.
The Ride or Die balms (which look A LOT like a product you’d find from Glossier) are described as being an intensely hydrating tinted lip balm that offers a sheer wash of colour.
On top of that, they’re:
– infused with Jojoba oil + vegan collagen
– 100% vegan & cruelty free
– free of phthalates, parabens, sulfates, nonylphenol, ethoxylates, triclosan, trioclocarban, and hydroquinone
And get ready for this…they’re only $5!
Now, let me put the price alone into perspective for you…
My lip balm consumption (not literally of course) has significantly increased since I started getting my lips done. Once they’ve been plumped, a thick, moisturizing balm is never more than an arms reach away from me…at all times. So with that in mind, here are balms that are super similar to the Ride or Die ones along with their prices:
> Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask (which might be THE most similar) is a whopping $34+tax
> Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm is $29+tax
> Laneige Lip Glowy Balm costs $20+tax
> Lanolips is $19+tax
Anyways you get my point. These e.l.f. balms totally rival some of Sephora’s best selling balms and are a fraction of the price. So why not buy 3 or 4 of the Ride or Die balms for the price of ONE balm?! Something to think about + my apologies for the rant haha.
Anyways, where was I?!
Oh yes, these balms are currently available in 7 deliciously scented shades:
P.S.L (Pumpkin Spice Latte) – sheer orange with pumpkin scent
Grapefruit Goals – sheer pink with grapefruit scent
Cheeky Cherry – sheer deep berry tint with cherry scent
Tough Cookie – sheer warm caramel with a warm brown sugar scent
Just Peachy – sheer orange peach with a peach scent
Mighty Mint – clear with a mint scent
Boss Berry – sheer red berry with a berry scent
While I obviously wanted to order all 7 shades, I decided to have a little bit of control (for once) and instead selected my favourite 3. And so, I am now the proud owner of Tough Cookie (because I can’t resist anything that’s going to smell like baked goods) ,Grapefruit Goals (which is the most gorgeous soft pink) + Cheeky Cherry (because HELLO…everyone needs a dark berry lip for Fall/Winter).

Besides having the most gorgeous packaging, the product itself is actually SO incredible. I mean, look at that glossy pigment!!

One thing a lot of people said about these balms was that they were super thick + were on the tacky side. I mean, I didn’t love the idea of that for my luscious lips. Luckily I have not found them to be sticky at all. They are definitely a thicker balm but for me that just means that they’ll last more than 20 minutes! And believe me when I tell you a little goes a long way!
If you couldn’t tell, I am honestly SO in love with these balms and think they’ll be THE perfect everyday lippie to layer on top of a lip liner and wear…literally everywhere.
And there you have it friends! If you’re in the market for the perfect lip balm, definitely check these ones out!
Do you switch out your lipsticks and glosses for lip balms once the colder weather hits? If so, which balms do you reach for? Let me know in the comments below!
Thanks so much for stopping by & until next time,
