Happy Tuesday friends!
I have to be honest, once I get an idea in my head it’s hard to get me to change my mind. The same is absolutely true when it comes to makeup. Once I set my eyes on a new product, I’ll obsess over it, dreaming of how it’ll totally change my life. Days later, I’ll have obsessed over it enough that I’ll rush to the store to buy it. I feel like 9 times out of 10, I buy it & am totally disappointed with it because I’ve made it out to be so much better in my head.
Strange I know.
Anyways, this time was no different when I first saw the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Lipstick Les Macarons. While out at Shoppers Drug Mart, my Mom had asked me to swatch one of the lightest shades for her and report back. I did so without thinking too much of it. I clearly hadn’t paid attention to what I was swatching or that it was called LES MACARONS…I mean..totally my kinda makeup product *insert heart eyes emoji*.
A few days later, Tati had posted a video on YouTube about the liquid lipsticks (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB8cvgYOr4o) & it was at that moment, that the “obsession” began.
Later that day, I ventured out to not 1,2 but 3 Shoppers Drug Marts in the area. I HAD to have one of these liquid lipsticks and I was not going to stop until at least one of them was in my makeup collection.
The next day, I decided to go further afield and found a Shoppers 25 minutes from home. It’s safe to say that I was nothing short of elated when my eyes stumbled upon the L’Oreal Les Macaron cardboard display down one of the aisles.
After swatching the whole collection, I was surprised at how glossy they were considering they’re advertised as a “pro-matte liquid lipstick”. Oh & did I mention, they smelt like little drops of heaven straight outta Ladurée (p.s. If you haven’t been to Ladurée, you HAVE to go!).
Anyways, after walking around the store staring at the glossy swatches on my hand, I ended up leaving Shoppers empty handed. While the colors were stunning, none of them really spoke to me.

Even after leaving Shoppers disappointed, the L’Oreal LES MACARONS collection was still in the back of my mind days later. I had dreamed about getting the orange-y colored one (Mademoiselle Mango) thinking that THIS was going to be the lippie that made me branch out and finally wear fun lip colors.
After about a week of tossing the idea around in my mind, I decided that I was going to buy #826 – Mademoiselle Mango. In true Ashley fashion, by the time I had gotten to the display, I had changed my mind and bought the “safer” option, #818 – Dose of Rose.
I’d like to say this story has a happy ending, but sadly it does not.
I brought my new bundle of joy home, swatched it and was shocked when there was NO gloss. And I’m not saying there wasn’t as much gloss as when I had previously tried them on. I mean, TOTAL.MATTE.DRYNESS. Through my shock, I decided to give it a chance and apply it to my lips. UGH, I was even less impressed. It was tacky and super streaky and totally NOT worth the almost $20 I spent on it. The LES MACARON collection definitely does not take the cake. (get it..macaron…cake…hahah).

And through this, DEAL or DON’T has been born. As I purchase new products & test them out, I will decide whether each product is a DEAL & should absolutely be purchased, or if it’s a DON’T…aka don’t waste your money.
Unfortunately the L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Lipstick Les Macarons collection are a definite DON’T for me. While the name & packaging are cute, the product is not worth the price tag. I think a lot of us think we’re picking the most economical option by buying makeup from the drugstore, but I’m not sure that’s the case, especially with this lip product. I could have definitely gone to Sephora and found a much better product for around the same price as this liquid lipstick.
